The Department of Commerce came into being in 1974 and commenced its journey by
starting commerce at under-graduate level. The commerce teaching in post
graduate level started in year 1979-80 ,since then department has covered a long
distance as far as time & developments are concerned. The Department has been
working effectively with the objective to facilitate and promote quality
education for all round development of the students. At present, the department
is thriving under the leadership of Diwakar Bouddha, Head of the department.
Presently, the department is running two regular programmes:
1. Bachelor of
Commerce
2. Master of Commerce
The B.Com and M.Com programmes are under Choice
Based Credit System (CBCS). CBCS system was introduced by H.N.B. Garhwal
University, Srinagar (affiliating University) in 2012 at Post Graduate level and
in 2015 at Under-Graduate level. There are five qualified faculty members,
wholeheartedly involved and dedicated for the cause of academic and holistic
empowerment and development of the students. The academic performance of the
students is assessed continuously during the study period by tests, seminars,
group discussions, case studies, assignments and other academic exercises, in
addition to end-semester examinations.
The courses of B.Com and M.Com programmes
are designed according to the developments in the internal and external sectors
of Indian economy and global market. The students are groomed to face the
challenges of the employment market and improve their employability.
Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as Communication, skill,
Personality and Leadership Development, Coaching for Competitive Examinations,
Participation in NSS/ NCC activities, Sports, Cultural Events and are given due
care by the Department for improving the soft skills of the students. The
Department takes necessary arrangements for providing study materials (books and
other printed study materials) to the students.
